“How dare she speak that way to me!”

“I can’t believe she said that about me!”

By the time we’ve said or thought those words, we have probably whistled for our high horse and have vaulted into the saddle.

Though his words in Eccles. 7:21, 22 are for everyone, Solomon may have had in mind a few of the female interactions observed in his household. The words remind us women, though, that we have often been on the giving end of such sentiments. Who among us have never spoken rudely, or have never eagerly carried a tale to someone else? Herein lies a great opportunity for us. Perhaps the Lord is allowing us to extend forgiveness to the speaker. Maybe He is bringing to our attention something about ourselves that needs changing. We can’t do either until we climb down and pass the reins, and the bitterness, to Him.
