A friend gave me joy via a glass bowl. She meant it to be used for homemade salsa. It’s a plain bowl with no etching-- an inch thick at the base, and ¾ of an inch thick at the rim. Uncommonly beautiful in its simplicity, I keep it on the dining room table when it’s not holding salsa. It reminds me to pray for my friend. It also reminds me that I can have glass things out for view that don’t have fingerprints on them (this thought also brings joy).

Near the end of a sunny day, I walked through the room and saw a line of colour running across the wall and onto the nearby white board. With no kids about, I bypassed the thought of OK, who drew on the wall, and went on to what a beautiful rainbow—where is it coming from? As I looked, I thought ...window...glass bowl on table... with no prints. I thought of the sun, and prisms, and small, simple, empty glass vessels used to spray colour across a wall. I played with the bowl a bit, having fun with the rainbow.

And that is how, on a sunny day, I received another one of the Lord’s reminders of how I am His chosen vessel and how I can, and should, magnify Him.

Matt. 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, which is in heaven.”
